A friend of mine found Bountiful Baskets Food Co-Op on Facebook a couple of weeks ago and we decided to give it a try. We figured for $15 a basket, it was worth the risk. We were very pleasantly surprised with our basket of fruits and veggies. We also split a case of apples that our family has enjoyed for the past two weeks (and will continue to enjoy the applesauce that is frozen). We went today to pick up our baskets and it was even nicer than last time! I had to take a picture of the goodies.
For $15 we each received squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, persimmons (had to google those!), bananas, apples, grapes, blackberries, celery, kiwi, and oroblanco (also had to google those!). Then Lisa added on tangerines (they are tiny so I told the kids they were Clementines and they have eaten 2 since I walked in the door an hour ago) and squash and there were so many in her add on that she shared with me so we now have about 40 Clemintines and three huge squash (butternut, acorn, and spaghetti). We tried their bread last week and I loved that but the kids didn't so I didn't get it this time. It is all so good and I love that it is making me try new things. Please feel free to share recipes with me for any/all of the above. I'm attempting to make my menu for the week and use all of this...it will be interesting :)
Check and see if there is a Bountiful Baskets Co-Op in your area - totally worth it, in my humble opinion.
What did you freeze the applesauce in? Weird question, I know.

ReplyDeleteI think ziploc freezer bags are great. I'm just freezer-challenged and always enjoy hearing how others succeed at such domestic undertakings. :)

ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I wish we had something like that here. Did you make the applesauce in the crockpot? My kids and I usually do that every year and I just realized that we haven't done it yet this year.

ReplyDeleteAcorn squash cut open and baked the topped with cinnamon and pineapple! Spaghetti squash cooked and "strung" topped with pasta sauce and mozzerella cheese! Butternut squash with cinnamon and brown sugar or in squash rolls if you are feeling adventurous! I can get that recipe to you. Never in my life had a persimmon or the other thing. Let me know how that goes! :-) That basket looks awesome!
