Book review: Couples Who Pray

I was so excited to review this book as we are always looking for ways to improve our marriage. Husband and wife, Squire Rushnell and Louise DuArt, are both in the entertainment business and were married in 2000. They have a lot of connections in the entertainment field and the book is full of stories from both their lives and from other celebrities.

The book is divided into 3 sections. The first section explains and gives examples of why it is so important to pray together with your spouse every day. They are only asking that you pray for a minimum of 5 minutes a day with your spouse...not too much to ask, is it? The second section lays out the 40 Day Challenge. There are many examples in the Bible where Jesus, and others do things for 40 days, which is why they chose for this to be a 40 Day Challenge. It is long enough to make it a habit but not too long to scare people off that are afraid of a little commitment.  The third section is about factors during your 40 days. When you commit to growing closer to God and your spouse, the Devil gets edgy. Things are going to come up that are going to try to get you to quit. This section discusses some of those things and encourages you to not give up.

I think this is a great concept and definitely believe that praying together daily will help strengthen your marriage. However, I didn't love this book. I felt like it took too much time "name dropping" and not enough time teaching, which is what I was looking for. The section on the "how to" do the challenge, was weak, in my opinion.  I found myself flipping through, looking for meat instead of fluff.
