You know what else I love?

I love that today is January something...ok, just looked...January 6th and this is what my backyard looks like:

Can you believe this gorgeous weather we are having? I am LOVING it and can't believe that if I had actually shaved in the past month, I could wear shorts in January! I love that I hung jeans out to dry this morning, *left for 2 hours, and came back to them dry so I could switch loads. Everything is drying almost as fast as in the summer. YAY! I love the smell of our clothes that are dried outside. We have been hanging probably 90% of them since early in the summer and I wasn't sure how long it would last. I'll take any of these days I can get! Heading to the park now to enjoy it a little more. I know it is bound to end sooner or later so going to soak up all the sun we can.

*side note: I took the kids to volunteer today at a local thrift store/ministry. They did so well that we are going to plan to do it every Friday. I think they were an actual help and it is nice for them to get out and DO something to help others instead of just talking about helping others. If we can bust out school work during the week, we can make this a Friday habit :)

  2. It's in the 70's here. Even though it's nice, I'm sad because we've only had about three days of cold weather this winter. I would love to have at least two weeks of cold.

  3. Oh I love it! You know, I've been making my own detergent and been wanting to do some clothes lines as well- how do you soften them? Is that a wooden frame for hanging clothes or an old playground? We have an old playground & I think I'll have Mark hang me some lines from it!! Thanks for the inspiration- if you have a softening trick- I'd love to hear it!

  4. I make my own detergent too :) They get pretty crispy drying outside, but we throw them all in the dryer (with the undies and socks that didn't get hung outside) for 10 minutes after they are all dry. I have a stick on fabric softener in there...works great. Everything smells so good to me when it comes from outside.
That is the kids playground - we hang with hangers on there. Then Caleb tied a rope across it a while back and it works great too. We can hang a full load out there and during the summer, it is dry by the time the next one washes, which is faster than if we dried it in the dryer!

  5. I love the idea of hanging clothes on the line to dry, but that wouldn't go over too well here for a couple of reasons. First, they would actually freeze on the line and second, we would probably get a fine from the association for even having a clothes line. I would put one up in the garage during the summer, but then our clothes would smell of car exhaust, so I'll just have to admire yours.
I love that y'all are volunteeering at the thrift store. What kind of things do you do there?

  6. LOL - thankfully we don't have an association in our 'hood so can get away with airing our clean laundry ;)
This thrift store just opened. They use all their proceeds to feed people in our area that are in need. Since they just opened, they need a lot of help organizing. The little two kids unloaded and organized some toy donations on the shelves. C folded clothes and straightened the shelves while I helped hang and organized more donations. They need a lot of help and only have one employee....all the rest are volunteers.

  8. That is such a cool shot. (I would blow it up and put it in my laundry room!) Can't complain about the bursts of spring we get here, that's for sure! :)
